Do you have a VGA monitor or projector that you want to use with your computer or laptop? Is it too old and doesn’t support the newer inputs such as HDMI? This is the perfect solution for you, if you have USB 3.0.

This nifty USB 3.0 to VGA adapter actively converts a digital signal sent from your PC (no OS X compatibility) to an analog VGA signal. To do this, your computer treats this device as a monitor and will either extend its display to it or mirror. You can choose your display choice. How does it do this? It certainly isn’t plug-and play. When first inserting this adapter to the PC, it acts as a USB with a small 7.5MB file inside, which is the software for the adapter. Big thumbs up for this; saves both CDs and bandwidth. After installing the software, which takes about 1-3MB of RAM to use, it will find the adapter and begin sending a video signal.

The video signal is very good. When it output a 1080p 60Hz signal, I could not tell a difference between it and a raw DVI input. There is definitely a loss in quality because it actively converts the video signal, but it is very unnoticeable. In addition, there is no sound output, as VGA does not support audio channels.

The size of this device is very good. I have seen other USB 3.0 to VGA adapters, and some are twice the size of this. Thus, it can be easily hidden behind your PC or laptop. The last thing to note about this device is that my PC didn’t recognize the device when using the USB 3.0 headers on my motherboard. This could just be an issue on my end, but be sure you have an available USB 3.0 port on the rear of your PC.

This is overall a very well made product that is very versatile and works as advertised for its many purposes. It is perfect for specific use-cases such as in business; some projectors may support only VGA. I can confidently recommend this product.
